Dental Crowns, Dental Bridges, and Veneer Teeth

Dental crowns, bridges, and veneers are all methods of restoring damaged or missing teeth.

They are all designed to serve the same purpose – reinforcing a tooth that’s been weakened by injury or decay and making it look as good as new again. But there are some key differences between them that will determine which treatment is right for your situation.

At Oral Square Dental Care, Tarneit, we are specialists in dental bridges, porcelain veneers, and dental crowns and will thoroughly explore the best option for your concern so you know exactly what your dental treatment plan involves before making a decision.

Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are permanent caps used to cover damaged teeth that are decayed or broken to restore them to their normal shape and size. They can also be used for cosmetic purposes to create symmetry or balance to your smile.

Typically, they are made of porcelain, ceramic, or metal (depending on your needs) which are all very strong materials that will protect your natural teeth from further damage.

Crowns can cover one or several damaged teeth, but they’re typically placed on the front teeth because these are more visible when you smile or talk. Crowns also provide support for dental implants if you have had one placed in your mouth.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is a fixed prosthetic that replaces one or more missing teeth. False teeth are fitted to crowns on each side of the gap, filling the space and thus ‘bridging’ it. The purpose of a bridge is to provide stability and support for surrounding teeth.

A bridge is a viable option for people who still have some natural teeth on either side of the missing ones, as these adjacent teeth serve as anchors for each end of the bridge.

This procedure requires two visits: one for making impressions of your jawbone and another for placing implants if necessary before attaching the actual bridge itself, however, a consultation with one of our dentists will cover every aspect of the procedure and whether it is the best course of action for your missing tooth.

Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are bonded to the front surface of teeth. Veneers can be used to improve the appearance of teeth, to close gaps between teeth, fix chips or cracks in your teeth or change the colour of your teeth.

Our dentist will make a mould of your natural teeth to create a perfect fit before they are bonded to your existing teeth and shaped to achieve your desired appearance.

Porcelain veneer teeth are not as durable as other restorative options, but they can last for many years if cared for properly. Consult your dentist to see if veneers are your best option.
